First Green Star Discovered

A University of Warwick team (Mark Hollands et al.) modeled the human‑visible colors of nearby white dwarfs by converting observed spectra into human‑vision color space and found at least one (WD J1330+6435) that would appear chartreuse green because trace sodium and other rocky‑debris elements absorb orange wavelengths. The study analyzed spectra for 151 white dwarfs within ~65 light‑years and also identified unusually pink and yellow white dwarfs produced by different atmospheric chemistries. — This shows how spectroscopy plus perceptual modeling can change public images of the sky, offers a concrete outreach hook for astronomy, and highlights elemental signatures (rocky debris) in white‑dwarf atmospheres that bear on planetary system evolution.
