Misinformation research gap outside the West

Most empirical work on online falsehoods comes from the USA and Western Europe, yet harms, platform dynamics and user behaviours can differ substantially elsewhere. The article argues for prioritizing data access and collaborative research in under‑studied regions where platform effects may be larger and different. — Filling this geographic evidence gap would change global policy priorities and avoid exporting Western remedies that may be ineffective or harmful in other contexts.
