Pace of children's media matters

Modern children’s programming and apps often accelerate scene changes, cues and rewards so quickly that young viewers have insufficient time to process narrative, emotion or cause–effect, which can blunt empathy and learning. Accounting for temporal design — how long a medium gives a child to make meaning — should be part of content guidelines, parental advice and platform design. — If regulators, educators and platforms shift from counting minutes to evaluating media pace, interventions could more directly protect developmental processes like attention, empathy and narrative comprehension.
