Postal failures threaten mail voting

A federal Office of Inspector General audit found that many post offices lacked adequate training, tracking and procedures for handling mail ballots, producing delays and incorrect postmarks even during a primary. Those operational gaps persist even as a White House executive order and a pending Supreme Court decision would expand USPS responsibility for voter lists and ballot routing. — If the Postal Service cannot reliably process ballots, judicial or policy changes that increase its regulatory role could materially increase disenfranchisement risk ahead of national elections.
