Registry of protective alleles

Updated: 2026.10.04 2H ago 1 sources
Create a public, curated registry of validated 'protective' genetic variants (with genotypes, effect sizes, provenance and known harms) to guide clinicians, researchers and regulators. Such a registry would make enhancement options legible, enable safety validation and standardize claims — but it also lowers barriers to commercial embryo selection and gene editing and concentrates political questions about access, consent and dual use. — A publicly available catalog of protective alleles would reframe reproduction, public health and biosecurity policy by turning genetic resilience into a governable, marketable dataset.

Harvard Church lab's 'Protective Alleles' spreadsheet and annotated gene list (e.g., CCR5 -/-, PCSK9 -/-, PRNP G127V) serves as the concrete prototype and dataset motivating a registry.
