Smart TVs Spy Offline and in Standby

An independent packet‑capture investigation found LG OLED TVs scanning local networks, logging Wi‑Fi/location details, sampling audio/video, and storing microphone recordings while in standby or even disconnected; those captures are later uploaded to LG Ad Solutions when connectivity resumes. The behavior was validated on retail units by Gamers Nexus, Level1Techs and security researchers. — If mainstream consumer TVs routinely collect and exfiltrate home audio, video and network metadata even when 'offline', regulators, privacy law, product liability and ad‑tech oversight need urgent attention.
