Values Homogeneity Undermines Expertise

When communities of technical experts are politically or culturally uniform, their technical pronouncements become harder for the public to separate from value judgments, reducing trust. This matters especially for policy areas with technical inputs — climate, public health, energy — because citizens cannot triangulate expertise by comparing across value-diverse experts. — If true, restoring public confidence requires diversifying expert forums, exposing value tradeoffs explicitly, and institutional designs that separate technical analysis from advocacy.
